Author Biography

Cor Wagenaar

Cor Wagenaar (1960) studied history at Groningen University before specializing in the history of architecture and urbanism at the same university. In 1995 his doctoral thesis was published: Welvaartsstad in wording. De wederopbouw van Rotterdam 1940-1952 [Welfare City in the making. The Reconstruction of Rotterdam 1940-1952]. Many publications later, in 2011, his Town Planning in the Netherlands since 1800 was published; Responses to Enlightenment Ideas and Geopolitical Realities (second edition 2015). In 2001 he joined the Institute of the history of Art, Architecture and Urbanism at Delft University of Technology. Since 2014, he has held the co-supported Thomassen à Thuessink Chair at the University of Groningen, which investigates the relationship between the built environment and public health. In 2016, he was appointed professor of architecture and urban planning history at this university.
